5 Wall Ball Drills Every Lacrosse Player Should Master

Consistency builds confidence — and in lacrosse, nothing builds consistency like wall ball. Every great player, from youth leagues to the pros, has spent hours pounding the wall, sharpening their stick skills one rep at a time. The good news? You don’t need a fancy field, a coach watching, or even a teammate — just a ball, your stick, and a little space.
Here are five essential wall ball drills to add to your routine.
1. The Classic Overhand Throw
Stand 10–12 feet from the wall.
Throw overhand with your dominant hand and catch cleanly.
Focus on quick releases and staying balanced.
💡 Pro Tip: Work in sets of 50. Once you’re locked in, switch to your off-hand.
2. Quick-Stick Challenge
No cradling — just catch and release in one motion.
Aim for rhythm, accuracy, and speed.
💡 Why it matters: In-game, you rarely get time to wind up. Quick-stick drills train your hands to react instantly.
3. Off-Hand Reps
Players often avoid their weak hand. Don’t.
Spend equal time on your left and right throws.
Start slow, build accuracy, then increase speed.
💡 Game Impact: Coaches notice players who can confidently use both hands — it makes you unpredictable and valuable.
4. Sidearm & Underhand Variations
Mix up release angles by practicing sidearm and underhand throws.
This builds creativity and helps you find passing lanes defenders can’t block.
💡 Advanced move: Try alternating release angles each rep.
5. Behind-the-Back (BTB) Fun
Start slow, just focusing on form and accuracy.
Even if you don’t use BTB in games yet, it builds stick confidence.
💡 Motivation factor: Nothing makes wall ball more fun than throwing in a few trick shots.
Bringing It All Together
Wall ball isn’t about doing one drill perfectly — it’s about building habits that translate directly into game performance. Tracking your reps keeps you accountable and shows how much you’re really putting in.
That’s exactly why we built Reppit. With just your Apple Watch, Reppit automatically counts your reps, separates left and right hands, and logs your progress over time. No guessing, no shortcuts — just proof that your hard work is paying off.
